Thanks Barbara, but Optimize shut down PSE.  With "Repair" only, it checked out the catalog and reported that it could not repair, and that I should restore from my Lacie EHD. This does not want to co-operate, and Lacie's help line is worse than Adobe's. Thanks anyway.
