Have been playing around with an idea and decided that I may as well ask the forum directly if you think Captivate8 could be a good fit for us.
The idea is to create a mechanism for testing human reaction / response times to visual stimuli. These test will be conducted on a daily basis and could involve millions of students / participants at each event. It will function daily and anticipated to run continuously for a decade.
The test itself will last around three minutes and involve up to ten visual challenges.
The idea is to create a mobile app for both android and iOS devices that will contain a MP4 video of around three minutes duration as well as various pages that connect to a Wordpress site which will largely function as a meeting place / social networking environment for the participants, probably with connection to Twitter and Facebook.
The Mp4 video will function as a template that will have video files / frames pushed to it prior to the running of each test.
The app will be programmable to commence the test video at a pre set time. All participants will engage in the test component simultaneously. But the Wordpress site would be available 24/7 for access to information and discussion forums.
Participants will have a preset maximum time to respond to each stimuli.
The results / reactions of the participants to each of the ten questions / propositions being put to them are to be recorded on a file and at the end of the video pulled back to a database for analysis.
At the completion of the video the files used for that event would be purged and the template would be ready for the next upload of data.
The participants are not to be aware of or involved in any of these processes, other than actually touching the screens of the smartphones / tablets in response to the stimuli.
The nature of some of the questions and imagery involved will require that the data be kept secret from and un-editable ( ie tamper proof) by the participants. This may require encryption of the data going in both directions to guarantee the integrity of the results obtained.
On that note we are hoping to avoid a formal logging on process for each test , allowing the participants to identify themselves by the phone number / address of their device . We want the experience of the participants to be enjoyable, hassle free and not appear to be some stuffy academic test or accountancy form.
Anyway, that’s probably enough for you to get the idea. The project is unusual but when implemented would be unique in its ability to gather timely information with daily global reach.
The questions are these.
Is captivate8 the right solution?
Are there any glaring problems here?
Are there plugins/ widgets available to add features to the app?
Is there a better way?
