Thanks John.
Unfortunately, I had already tried the cleaner and it didn't help, there were a couple of other steps that I needed to perform for that to work and would not have known if it wasn't for following your second suggestion.
Here's the solution transcribed from my online chat
- Click on the desktop and Press Command+shift+G
- "Go To Folder" type exactly : ~/Library/Application support/Adobe and then hit return.
- Rename the 'AAMUpdater' and 'OOBE' as 'AAMUpdater_Old' and 'OOBE_Old' .
- Now do this again go to the "Go To Folder" and type exactly : /Library/Application support/Adobe and hit return.
(the difference between Step 2 and Step 4 is the '~' symbol)
- Rename the 'AAMUpdater' and 'OOBE' as 'AAMUpdater_Old' and 'OOBE_Old' .
- Click on the the Finder>Go>Utilities
- Look for Adobe application manager and Adobe CC folder and trash both the folders.
- Now run the cleaner tool Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
- Select Adobe Application Manager for Mac OSX 10.6 and select "Select Cleanup"
- Now we will install the Adobe CC app for MAC OS X.
